Oscar Peterson Tribute Zip-up Hoodie

Oscar Emmanuel Peterson was a Canadian jazz pianist, virtuoso, educator, composer, and advocate for racial equality. He was called the "Maharaja of the keyboard" by Duke Ellington, simply "O.P." by his friends, and informally in the jazz community as "the King of inside swing".

During his life and career, Peterson received many awards and honours. These include the Praemium Imperiale (the arts equivalent of the Nobel Prize, presented by the Japan Art Association), the UNESCO International Music Prize, eight Grammy Awards (including a Lifetime Achievement Grammy), the 1993 Glenn Gould Prize (of which he was the third recipient, the first chosen by unanimous decision and the first ever non-classical musician) and many honourary degrees.

Peterson's 1962 composition, Hymn to Freedom, was an ode to the civil rights movement and drew stylistically from the sacred music of African American spirituals (aka "Negro" spirituals) and gospel music. His lyrics illustrate a vision of hope, love and unity, the threads that unite all civil rights leaders.
